Plumas & District School Reunion

The Plumas & District School Reunion was held in the community hall of Plumas July 31 - August 2, 2009. It took in former students and spouses/companions from Plumas Elementary and High schools, plus outlying rural schools: Deseronto, East and West Tupper, Maitlaind, Tenby, Soudan, Eddignton, Florence and Ivanhoe schools which were consolidated with Plumas as enrollment decreased over the years. Anyone who went to one of these schools prior to July 1, 1971 was eligible.

Registration took place on Friday evening with socializing and visiting well into the wee hours. Saturday started with a pancake breakfast catered to by the Plumas Curling Club. In the afternoon, the school held separate get-togethers, more visiting, a plaque dedication at Soudan School, and generally a re-acquaintance with the town and area. A delicious supper was emceed by Gerry Tonn, with various prizes given out such as to the oldest student in attendance, to those having lived in the most provinces, and those having lived in the most towns. A dance and more visiting completed the day.

On Sunday morning, a non denominational church service was held involving students from each former school district. A free-will offering was taken, realizing almost $800. that will go to the Central Plains Cancer Care. A light lunch followed the church service, hosted by the ladies of the reunion food committee. There was more socializing throughout the afternoon. An early evening cold plate dinner was served, followed by a talent show emceed by Judy Single, in which students participated in various events. A "Fischer" jacket, donated by Ray & Shirley Single (nee Buschau) was auctioned off, and the proceeds were donated to the reunion. The evening drew to a close with more visiting as people made reluctant farewells and promises to keep in touch.

Approximately 400 former students and spouses took in the reunion, coming from all across Canda and numerous states. A good time was had by all.
